Avenue Living has launched a unique and innovative portal to provide training as well as professional and personal development for employees.
Avenue Living University allows the company to train remotely – a key advantage during the pandemic, reaching employees across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
“Not only are we offering courses that teach our technical skills related to our systems and processes, but we also have courses on soft skills, like time management,” said Atara Harrison, Director of Organizational Effectiveness for Avenue Living. “The portal enables us to build our own custom courses that support our businesses.”
The online portal was developed by software company Yardi Systems. Each of Avenue Living’s 400+ employees has an account.
“Remote training is a huge benefit for us, since we work across three different provinces, many of them in rural locations. We can reach all of our employees in real time,” said Harrison.
Avenue Living University covers a wide swath of company operations, while future expansion opportunities include developing resources such as quality assurance programs, IT training, Occupational Health and Safety programs as well as People and Culture programs.
By delivering formal training with this new initiative, the company anticipates a large return on the program investment with improvement to operational standards. It will also help leaders assess the effectiveness of programs, processes, and people company wide. Avenue Living University allows everyone to get up to speed quickly, allowing in-person or specialty meetings to focus on bigger ideas related to training.
“The ability to monitor KPIs (key performance indicators) and training results is a large factor,” said Harrison.
Avenue Living plans to create a formal orientation and on-boarding program within the e-learning program for every role in the organization. The internal goal is part of a much more ambitious vision: to be one of Canada’s top employers.
